Less than 24 hours after ending their losing streak at Dodger Stadium, the San Diego Padres go for the series win Sunday when they take on the Los Angeles Dodgers in the finale of their three-game set. San Diego had dropped 10 in a row in Los Angeles before escaping with a 7-6 victory on Saturday to even the series. Pinch runner Everth Cabrera stole home with two outs in the ninth inning to tie the game and Will Venable scored the winning run on an error on the same play.

The triumph, which ended the Padres' four-game overall losing streak, was San Diego's fifth in its last 23 matchups with Los Angeles. It spoiled a strong night by Dodgers outfielders Andre Ethier and Matt Kemp, who combined to go 6-for-10 with a home run and four RBIs. The duo has gone 8-for-16 in two games since returning from the disabled list. Los Angeles, which has lost four of five, dropped out of first place in the National League West, falling one-half game behind San Francisco.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Padres RH Jason Marquis (1-5, 3.71 ERA) vs. Dodgers RH Chad Billingsley (4-9, 4.30)

Marquis is looking to halt his personal four-game losing streak. The slide was extended last Sunday, when he yielded three runs over five innings in a loss to Cincinnati. The 33-year-old will be making his eighth start for San Diego after going 2-4 with an 8.47 ERA in seven outings with Minnesota. Marquis is 5-4 with a 2.55 ERA in 14 career meetings with the Dodgers.

Billingsley also enters with a skid as he has dropped each of his last five starts. The 27-year-old is coming off a setback at Arizona on July 7 in which he surrendered four runs and six hits over six innings. Billingsley is 12-8 with a 2.62 ERA in 26 career games against the Padres, including a triumph in his season debut on April 6 when he tossed 8 1/3 scoreless frames.

1. The Padres had not won at Dodger Stadium since May 2011.

2. Marquis is an even 107-107 in 340 career games, including 281 starts.

3. San Diego 3B Chase Headley has his four of his nine home runs this season against the Dodgers.
