UFC 149 will feature a wide selection of action in numerous weight classes, and the welterweight fight that’s getting attention is the matchup between Chris Clements and Matt Riddle. Both fighters have had rocky roads to this point in their careers, but a win at UFC 149 will help them get a bigger fight against a contender the next time they step into the Octagon. Matt Riddle is currently -155 at Bovada Sportsbook.
Clements will come into this bout on a five-fight win streak, with four of those wins coming via TKO or KO finish. His UFC debut was against Keith Wisniewski when he won a narrow split decision; now he will face TUF alum Riddle in what will be Riddle’s 10th UFC fight.
Clements may be best known for having the fastest KO win in MMA history at only three seconds, but what’s really impressive about the Canadian welterweight has been the improvement he’s shown over the last two years. Against a known name in Riddle he gets a chance to put himself in the talent-rich UFC welterweight picture.
Riddle’s road in the UFC has been a bumpy journey following his time on The Ultimate Fighter 7. With a record of 1-2 in his last three Octagon appearances he will need a win to remain a profitable attraction for the organization. Barely getting past Henry Martinez in his one win of late, Riddle will need a better-than-usual performance on Saturday.
This fight will be between two aggressive strikers who have heavy hands and a torrid pace. With two hungry fighters giving it their all in the center of the Octagon it could go either way, and one could make an argument for either fighter coming out on top in this one.
